Lainie is an experienced Ka Huna Massage therapist with a background in Art Therapy.
Lainie’s journey with Ka Huna bodywork began in the early 2000s when, after experiencing it herself, she then understood why it was known as the “Rolls Royce of massage”. From there, she embarked on training in Ka Huna bodywork and personal development at Mette’s Institute, now High Spirits Retreat, in Kin Kin, QLD. Experiencing the transformative power of this work first-hand, Lainie’s life was forever changed.
Ka Huna Massage explained-
Ka Huna is a flowing, holistic bodywork practice that combines rhythmic movement and deep tissue techniques, promoting relaxation, physical ease and reconnection.
Hawaiian massage, known as Lomi Lomi, which Lainie has also trained in, is an ancient Native Hawaiian healing tradition with roots in the ancestral practices brought to Hawai‘i by Polynesian voyagers. Traditionally practised by Kahunas — keepers of sacred and specialised knowledge — it uses flowing, rhythmic movements, deep tissue techniques, breathwork and spiritual practices to support balance of body, mind and spirit.
These are two different styles of Hawaiian massage. Ka Huna itself is a modern Hawaiian bodywork lineage inspired by huna, meaning “the secret” or hidden knowledge, and characterised by flowing movements using the hands, forearms and elbows.
Temple-Style Lomi Lomi incorporates dance-like movement and continuous flowing techniques. Rooted in the philosophy of Aloha, which embraces unconditional love, compassion and kindness, this work encourages connection and holistic wellbeing.
Lainie’s creative practice has encompassed singing and songwriting, community art education, art therapy, face and body painting, scenic painting, puppet-building for television, and creating 2.5-metre-tall statues for the opera.
