Pregnancy Massage – 60 min
Pregnancy Massage 60 minPregnancy Massage is a wonderful treatment to receive – relaxing, pain relieving, comfortable and peaceful.
For first time mums, it is a welcome relief to have somewhere they can rest and receive a nurturing treatment along with helpful advice.
You can have a pregnancy massage safely from pre-conception to birth. We recommend once a month, but we work with whatever suits our clients needs.
We massage you either on your side, with a pregnancy MUMU support pillow for your tummy or on your stomach with our specialised pregnancy support pillows. We make sure you are very comfortable and cosy. This way we also ensure the baby is comfortable and we can access your hips, back, shoulder blades and neck with ease and relief for you.
Some of the benefits are as follows:
- Improvement in circulation – for mother and baby, helping ensure that the nutrients are getting to you and your baby, as well as detoxifying both (or all) of you more effectively
- Reduction in anxiety levels
- Relief of lower back pain as well as leg and hip pain
- Reduction in calf cramps
- Improved sleep quality
- Relief of headaches and sinus congestion
- Reduction in nausea
It may also assist in the reduction of elevated blood pressure.
Pregnancy massage is a safe, pleasant, non-invasive therapy that has a range of positive health implications for both mother and child – due to the reduction in anxiety levels alone.
We can help concerning pre-natal care and advice on supplements to ensure the correct macronutrients are being taken for the best and healthiest outcome for you and your baby.
Touch is one of the most frequently and consistently proven methods of relaxation and healing, resulting in improved moods, health and wellbeing.
Hicaps and Health Fund rebates available.
Studies:
1. A randomised controlled group of 26 pregnant women were given either relaxation therapy or massage therapy twice a week for 5 weeks.
The group receiving massage reported a reduction in anxiety, improved mood, better sleep quality and reduction in back pain. Urinary stress hormone levels were also decreased. (Field, Hernandez-Reif, Theakston et al :1999, Journal of psychosomatic obstetrics and gynaecology).
2. A randomised controlled study of 84 women suffering from depression were recruited during 2nd trimester of pregnancy and given either massage therapy twice weekly, progressive muscle relaxation, or standard prenatal care for a16 week period.
The women receiving massage reported an immediate decrease in anxiety, depression, leg and back pain, and also had better neo-natal outcomes – (including decreased incidence of prematurity and low birth weight babies) – than those in the other two groups. Reduction in urinary levels of cortisol and norepinephrine were also observed. (Field, Diego, Hernandez-Reif: 2004, ibid).

Abdominal & Remedial Massage with Etta – Initial consultation – 90 min
Abdominal & Remedial Massage with EttaMaya Abdominal Massage is a way to reconnect with our femininity, womanhood and when we are ready, to prepare for a healthy pregnancy.
This is what Etta has to say –
“For many young women, periods are at times which are connected to acne, a heavy flow, intense period pain, or fear of falling pregnant – which almost automatically meant a trip to the family doctor and a prescription for the pill. For those who didn’t have these concerns, some dread the onset of periods if historically their mum has had problems and they are worrying about being the same.
In later years we may decide we want to have children, and we may or may not be able to fall pregnant so easily.
So however we experience our menstrual cycles, our womb has a central role in our experience as a woman. Despite vastly different cultural norms, a healthy womb is associated with balanced but cyclical hormones, relatively pain-free periods, and a bright red, fresh flow of blood that occurs predictably each month. If you experience something other than this, it is not necessarily just something you have to accept, or take the pill to manage, or suffer with interminably. Abdominal and fertility massage can help.
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy and Fertility Massage Therapy are massage modalities that target the position and health of the pelvic and abdominal organs, repositioning those that have shifted, including the uterus, to restore and improve the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and chi energy. Focusing primarily on the sacrum and the abdomen, these therapies can improve menstrual cycle pain and regularity, help balance hormones, stabilise ovulation, improve fertility and conception, assist in digestive issues, reduce scar tissue and associated pain, and help restore a woman’s vital energy.
If you would like to talk about how this approach might help you have a better relationship with your womb, your periods, or your fertility, Etta is available at Sage regularly for appointments.
Etta is available every Wednesday.
